Guidelines On How To Job Hunt

June 26th, 2010 |

Searching for a job vacancy can be a process which is fraught with mistakes, but the process is rather simple and should not be made over-complicated by the candidate.

If you find you keep getting rejections you need to asses the situation and change your tactics.

If the job requires a person who can type 90+ words a minute or fluent French then you better make sure you fill the requirements to the highest degree.  There is no point wasting their time with exaggerated skills or misleading information on your C.V.

You should always refrain from gossiping about your current or previous employer in a job interview as recruiters view this as highly unprofessional.

If you do discuss your current employer in an interview you could be breaching your contract and confidentiality agreement.

Always accept a rejection gracefully and learn from the interview or application process.

Always attend an interview with a smart appearance as this will be noted by the interviewer.

A well written CV is vital if you want to secure an interview, so avoid making it overly long or too short and keep the information relevant and interesting.
Following these guidelines will make it easy to avoid making job hunting mistakes.

Don’t Make Mistakes When Applying by Email

Job hunters are more commonly applying for jobs via email but using this method is not without potential problems.

Be careful when applying for a job online that you do not make one of the common mistakes, such as sending the email to the wrong person, or applying from your work email address.

Following some simple guidelines will help you avoid making mistakes when applying for a job via email.
Avoid sending the same email to a large amount of different companies. Don’t send the CV that you applied for a waitress position when you are looking for Tesco job vacancies.

Sending the same letter of application to several companies will ultimately mean it is not written with one specific vacancy in mind, and will make you look as though you are not serious about the vacancy.

You should not send your letter of application from your work email address as it compromises your loyalty to your existing employer and looks unprofessional.

Generally, a vacancy will be advertised with guidelines on applying, and these should be followed closely.

The email address should be the last thing you complete, because this way you can avoid sending the email by accident.
